  • Photoshop is the key to editing your photos  By : David Peters
It is this photography 'purest' to whom I appeal (this time) - the ones that still like using film every now and then. Most photographers have Digital SLRs (DSLR - "et moi aussi"). I know you can create this effect with Photoshop, after the fact; but having creative control over this special effect makes it exciting because you execute this photo miracle at the precise moment you push the shutter button. Ghosting. This is what this special effect is called; accomplished by using your SLR's multiple exposure feature, but with a simple twist to ensure proper film exposure. The procedure detailed in this article is different from the instructions in your SLR manual.
  • Digital photography: Is your digital camera the best one for you?  By : Dan Feildman
With the freedom of expression and the plethora of alternatives it offers, photography is one of the most popular and widespread of all art forms. Whether it's a dear memory you wish to preserve or an intricate work of art you find your expression in, photography has many takers, each of whom assimilate the art in their own unmistakable style. From bulky cameras trailing yards of film to state of the art pieces which capture images even faster than you blink, cameras have come a long way since their inception. Digital cameras, the latest to join the bandwagon, have opened up new vistas in the flexibility they offer as well as the crystal clear images which they produce, thus making them a hands-down favorite with casual and commercial photographers the world over. But when it comes to selecting your own digital camera, how do you know which one's the best for you?
  • Photoshop is full of hidden secrets: Discover them here  By : David Peters
The Lasso tool. This tool allows you to highlight an image that you have made in an image or an image you have opened in Adobe Photoshop. This marquee tool likes to have smooth hard edges to follow. If you a photograph that doesn't have a easy to follow edge around objects you will find it hard to use this tool. You have probably seen this when people cut their heads out of a picture and paste it onto somebody else's body. It is a very funny feature and this is the tool that does it! The lasso tool has three different variations. The second version is the Polygonal Lasso tool. This tool can make different shapes and curves when tracing around or cutting out a piece of an image. The third variation is the Magnetic Lasso tool that only works on images that have defined edges. The tool will clamp onto an edge and give it anchor points to shape the corners. This is good when you don't have that steady hand you used to have back in high school. I use this myself because I am not the man I used to be!
  • Transform the way you see the world  By : Dan Feildman
The art of photography has indeed undergone a dramatic transformation with the introduction of digital cameras. These cameras, which make use of electronic devices to capture images in binary data, have made photography a much easier and affordable option for amateurs and professionals alike. Digital cameras allow photographers to view the images, even before they are printed, thus enabling them to sift through the images and sort out the ones they choose to print and discard the rest. These images can be uploaded directly to the computer, without having to undergo the painstaking task of scanning every single photograph separately, and also lets the photographer store these images indefinitely in the computer memory. Also, the user can explore his creativity to the zenith, with the array of image and light enhancements that digital cameras offer.
  • Curious about digital photography?  By : Dan Feildman
It is important to realize that there is no such thing as a perfect camera, one that will be the best for everyone. Although we sometimes talk about 'cameras of the year' or 'top picks', such lists and awards are really of little consequence. The camera that wins most accolades may not be the one that is most suitable for you. The important thing you need to do is to think about what you want from a camera; you need to know what the various specifications mean, and to work out which is the best for you. Even those aspects that can easily be quantified - such as the number of pixels the sensor records - are not always straightforward. For some people a 2 megapixel (Mp) camera may be a better choice than a 4 Mp model. Even where image quality is important, you cannot assume that a 5 Mp camera will necessarily give better results than a 3 Mp model. As in life, other things are seldom equal.
  • Editing Images - Does your software live up to all its promises?  By : David Peters
Capturing the perfect image is far from an easy task. There are many factors which come into play in determining how impeccable your image is from selecting the perfect backdrop, to the color tones as well as the level of exposure. It is only when the perfect symphony of all these elements is achieved that the image is at its most spectacular. But very often, we find that even a small tweak can cause dramatic changes, thus detracting from the inherent beauty of the image. And to correct these, it is not always a feasible solution to start from scratch and re-shoot the image, all over again. It is here that skillful editing comes to the rescue, enabling you to not only correct your image of its imperfections, but also to enhance your picture quality and tone which your digital camera, by itself, may not allow. But the quality of editing is also largely dependant on how effective your editing software is and also how suited it is to your needs.
  • Digital Cameras - Master your software, one step at a time  By : Dan Feildman
With the ease of use and remarkable effects that digital technology offers, it is no surprise to find an ever-growing segment of photographers turning to digital cameras and photo-editing software with every passing day. While the key elements which converge to create flawless images do remain the same, digital tools do make it a lot easier to correct any blemishes that you may have overlooked when capturing the image while also letting you create marvelous effects with just a handful of tools. but when it comes to the actual process of re-touching your images, your efforts are not just limited to choosing the most appropriate editing software, but also ensuring that you do not spend unnecessary hours toiling over the most basic of functions and lose out on the more elaborate, and also more attractive, ones.
  • Photoshop Tips - Milestones of Digital Editing  By : Dan Brown
All of us wonder the logic behind the instant print of any digital photograph. The process involves a series of individual images that are captured instantly within nanoseconds and overlapped on each other producing the final image. This series of activity is collectively called work flow of digital imaging. The digital photography process does not end there. There are post photography workshop activities involved. The series of activities include saving the data from the digital camera to the hard disk, giving a quick revision for image quality, storing the photographs in to folders, making minor or major changes in the images using softwares, and publishing. The combined set of these activities is collectively called "editing digital photographs."

Today's brides and grooms are clamoring for the hip black and white photographs that look unique, and the photographers of today have to keep up with their desires. Another option besides the usual photo studio is the online web site that every good wedding photographer should have. Many times if a photographer is a novice to the internet, or designing websites a specialist can help design a unique website that will set them apart from the others.
  • Inside your digital camera  By : Dan Feildman.
But most photographs aren't just well-defined black and white boundaries - in fact, none of them are. So when faced with angles, gradients, or irregular shapes, the computer has to use its stored rules to guess what color the new pixels should be. In theory, the better routines allow the computer to do a pretty good job at smoothing out the image when the resolution is increased and all those new pixels are put in place. In practice, unlike in the movies or on TV, you can't get information out of a picture that isn't there. That tiny black dot on the horizon isn't going to turn into an umbrella when you double the resolution, it will just be a bigger black dot. So if you need a "bigger picture" than you have, why not use interpolation? The trick is that the interpolation done in your camera is not the same as the interpolation done in your computer's editing software.
  • Where have Creative Compact Cameras Gone?  By : Dan Feildman
While these cameras aren't much bigger than the compact digital cameras they typically offer the user a lot more control. You will find that the lenses may be bigger, heavier, and are typically of a higher optical quality. Almost all creative compact cameras offer the option of storing images in RAW format and some may offer the Adobe's standard DNG format.

Lighting effects - a change in the lighting can dramatically alter the mood of a photograph. In the past, photographers either had to wait for the sun to be just perfect or make use of special lighting in order to achieve the effect that they need. With lighting Photo Shop effects tutorials, you can adjust the lighting of a photograph even after it is taken. Think of the possibilities! You can take the picture of a sunset even in the middle of a cloudy day. You can light up the subject of a photograph even without using a flash. Photo Shop effects tutorials will even teach you how to make it look like you are living on an alien planet, by adding 2 different colored suns to your picture. The great thing about this is that, unlike other image editors which just paste a sun into the background, Adobe Photo Shop can really make it seem as if the addition does affect the lighting within the image.

  • Learning how to use your digital camera  By : Dan Feildman
Digital photography is a fast growing industry. Today, technology is making it possible to do nearly anything you want with photos, by using software, quality cameras, accessories and more. Starting with accessories, we will consider a few items that may help you along your journey in photography. Personally, I employ journey often while writing about photography, since it all respects photography is a journey, adventure, experience, creation and more rolled into one goal. Few of the accessories available to photographers or potentials are the lens attachments. You can purchase a converter attachment to give you a wider look at the picture in consideration. Some attachments work like a telescope and are designed to fit the telescopic lens. Cradles are dock stations. Similar to a ship at a dock, the passengers either board or get off board the ship, the dock station for cameras enable you to load your photos onto the dock reducing the stress of transferring while charging the battery life at the same time. What a valuable accessory.

Create depth of field: You can quite easily add depth of field to the images that you have taken "snaps" of. If you have an image that is completely in focus and the background too is in focus (a common effect of non SLR digital point and shoot cameras) the you can solve this using Photoshop. You simply draw a mask or make a selection around the subject, invert that mask so that it selects all but the subject and apply a blur effect to the part of the image that is selected. In the later versions of Photoshop there is actually a filter that emulates the natural lens blur. The end result is a sharp, in focus subject with an out of focus background. This can be very effective and can draw attention to the subject.

  • Silver Nitrate: Building the Photographic Revolution  By : Fabian Toulouse
While it is accepted that the first photograph was probably taken earlier, the official invention of photography was made in 1839 by French artist and chemist Louis J.M. Daguerre. In partnership with Joseph Nicphore Nipce, they expanded upon a discovery made by Johann Heinrich Schultz in 1724 regarding how a certain silver nitrate and chalk mixture darkened when exposed to light. The daguerreotype, or earliest type of photograph, was born.

  • Make Money With Photography  By : Diane Kelly.

With enough time and effort, you can make money with photography and create a new job and business for yourself. By considering the tips below, you will be able to make your photography business more successful and profitable for you.
  • Digital Photography: Your key to success  By : Dan Feildman
Your digital camera exposure time determines how long your digital camera takes to record its picture. On a well-lit day, exposure times can be very short because plenty of light is available to help record a photograph. At nighttime, exposure time can increase dramatically due to the near absence of light. Although most digital cameras handle this adjustment automatically, you should learn how to adjust your exposure time by hand. Read your digital camera's manual for instructions.
  • Editing Digital Photography: Software living up to its promises?  By : David Peters
Photography can be a tricky art selecting the perfect light conditions, adjusting the focus, zoom and even the time of the day you choose to click your photograph... every one of these factors adds up to create that perfect image, which you've planned so long and worked so hard to capture. But sometimes, despite your best efforts, your photograph doesn't quite end up the way you envisioned it. No matter how minor the glitch, it still detracts from the flawless image you're looking for. And fleeting moments don't last forever, nor are the changes of them occurring on a regular basis very likely. Here's where editing your digital image can salvage that lost pride in your skills, while also allowing you to add effects, you would have found exceedingly difficult, if not impossible to achieve with just your camera. But before you rush ahead and grab the first editing software you can get your hands on, stop a while and consider if your editing software does live up to your exacting standards.
  • What to do when editing digital photographs  By : David Peters.
In order to edit pictures successfully, one must have the proper tools, just as when processing photos in a darkroom. In the latter, chemicals, exposure times, and certain materials can affect the outcome of a photograph. In today's darkrooms, photo editing programs, one must know how to use the tools at hand to create the results wanted. Using photo editing programs makes editing much easier. It is far less expensive than working in a traditional darkroom and far less time-consuming if you wish it to be. However, you may also take your time editing to come out with the best results. Mistakes are not embedded in stone, for there's always the "undo" button to rely on. Using your software, you can improve an image, or change it to something completely different. The resolution of your computer's monitor can greatly affect the outcome of your photos. This is the amount of pixels there are on the screen. The more there are, generally, the better the quality of the images. Making sure you have a monitor that is suited for photo editing is an important part of the process. However, you must remember that certain resolutions are meant for certain sized monitors. A large resolution on a small monitor makes everything too small, whereas the opposite makes everything too big. Make sure you know what resolution your monitor is made for.

However, newer LCD displays and such are fixed at a certain resolution; making the resolution lower on these kinds of screens will greatly decrease sharpness, as an interpolation process is used to "fix" the non-native resolution input into the displays native resolution output. The best thing about digital cameras is that it's easy to take thousands of pictures. That's also the worst thing about digital cameras. After you've owned your camera for a few months, you won't be able to find that great picture you took a couple of months ago if your pictures aren't well organized or named logically. Folders are the best way to organize groups of pictures, and the My Pictures folder is a great place to start. In your My Pictures folder, create a sub folder for each year: 2004, 2005, 2006, and so on. This might seem silly the first year you own your camera, but after five years, you'll be glad you did this because you can go back to your 2005 folder and easily find a picture from a vacation you took that year. Arranging pictures by year is also helpful if you're scanning older photos stored in shoe boxes or albums that you took before owning a digital camera. This is also a good way to start organizing the pictures that you currently have on your computer.

Choosing photo-editing software can be difficult. Windows comes with rudimentary tools that will help you with your photos. But you'll need more if you plan on doing more than resizing and rotating photos. Also, cameras usually come with editing software. However, these probably lack essential features to editing your photos. For the average user, Photoshop is overkill. The learning curve is steep, to say the least. It will allow you to transform a photograph completely. However, its tools are aimed at creative professionals. Even experts struggle to master it! If you have outgrown lesser photo-editing programs, Photoshop may be for you. There are no other programs in the same league. The first thing you should look for is ease of use. Try editing one of your photos. With any program, there will be a learning curve. But, you should be able to find the controls you need fairly easily.

Adobe's Photoshop software is a very powerful image editing program that is by far the market leader for editing image files. I use Photoshop extensively when creating, and editing images for the web sites that I design. Almost all professional photographers and printers also use Photoshop to create all of the wonderful images that appear in magazines, billboards, and even on television. I am not the best artist in the world, but with Photoshop I have enough power to create brilliant images with tools that are built-in to the software. The coolest thing about Photoshop is that even as powerful as it is out of the box, there are many different plug-ins to make Photoshop even more powerful. The Photoshop plug-ins can be grouped into a few major categories which include 3D, color management, digital asset management, photographic, retouching, and special effects.

When people take digital images and put them on their computers, the pictures are generally not perfect. This is where enhancements come in, they will make it so your picture looks almost professional. One enhancement that is used often is the sharpness enhancement. The sharpness enhancement is extremely helpful. Basically it improves the quality on a fuzzy picture. Almost every editor has the sharpness too, sadly most of them aren't the best. The best ones use algorithms internally to help with the enhancement of the photo. This tool is extremely useful for blurry pictures or one with fuzzy lines and borders.

  • Perception is Key to Digitial Photography  By : David Peters
A primary knowledge of what the image is about forms the basic editing sense. Some thing like coffee should be brown, hot coffee should have vapor dancing on it. Standing near a path, hedge, fence or wall which stretches away into the distance will carry the eye from the foreground through to the distance, giving the picture the extra dimension of depth. Rivers and streams, stretching into the distance, can be used to serve the same function with the added advantage of sparkling with light and reflecting a blue sky. Whether the photograph is framed to give a vertical picture (portrait format) or horizontal picture (landscape format) will always be dictated by purely visual considerations. Just what is visually most effective in any particular situation will determine whether we should take a landscape or portrait format photograph. Street scenes are another popular subject in this category. Streets in villages, old market towns or the endless variety of town scenes in other countries provide a continuous source of interest. Looking down a street automatically gives the picture a certain depth. Finding a suitable item for the foreground can help this along. This might be such things as a quaint shop front, a market stall, the wing of a car or a person.
  • Tired of being confused by photoshop? No more!  By : David Peters
Digital photography has a lot of advantages over film photography in many areas, but one of the most useful is the final output of the image itself. With film cameras you had to rely on the processing lab to make any general adjustments needed to your photos to make them appear their best, but with digital photos you as the photographer have all the tools you need to enhance and edit your own photos right at home. Of course, how much editing you do to your photos before printing is entirely up to you and there are all kinds of preferences on photo editing from those that do almost no editing at all, to those who like to make major adjustments to almost every photo that they take. And there is plenty of middle ground in between those two extremes as well.

  • Photoshop Special Effects  By : David Peters
