Palisades Collection - How to Deal with Them

By: Justin Hutto

Palisades Collections is a collection agency. They are a subsidiary of Asta Funding. They collect on unpaid phone bills from AT&T and other unsecured debt.

However there are numerous individuals that dispute that they ever had an account with AT&T. There are also a number of people that have filed a lawsuit against Palisades Collection for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

They do not have a website and reportedly outsource incoming calls overseas. Thus even just finding a mailing address for them can be a task in it self.

They are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and allegedly are headquartered in Wisconsin. Asta Funding the parent company does not provide any contact information for Palisades on their website even though they are both part of the same organization.

If any collection agency is contacting you the logical first step is to request validation of the debt. With Palisades Collection there are reports of people requesting validation of a debt and their request was just ignored.

If seems as though Palisades Collection is able to operate with complete immunity from the law. So your options to deal with them are restricted.

Instead of communicating with Palisades I would suggest disputing the negative listing that they created on your credit report with the credit bureaus. This can be done yourself by mailing a dispute letter to the credit bureaus disputing the listing. Common reasons for a dispute are the account is not yours, never paid late, information is wrong.

There are reports of Palisades purchasing individuals private information and then creating a fraudulent account to try and collect on. I do not know the truth of this allegation but there is more than one allegation from individuals accusing Palisades of this.

Another way to deal with Palisades is to hire a professional credit repair service that has lawyers on their payroll. This way you will be able to ensure that your legal rights are being protected and this can be done at reasonable rate.

However you choose to handle this situation, use caution in any communications you have with them. Your communications can be used in a court of law by them to prove your guilt over an alleged debt.

In sum, if you are being contacted by Palisades I suggest seeking professional help and not responding to Palisades. I also recommend saving any communications from them and if need be file a complaint with the FTC.
